Garaway football rolls to season-opening win over River View
The Garaway football team opened the season with a 46-0 nonleague win over River View on Aug. 22.
Pirates quarterback Grady Miller finished 6-of-6 passing for 142 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 35 yards and a score on two carries. Micah Yoder caught touchdown passes of 34 and 9 yards. Matthew Frey caught a 54-yard touchdown pass and rushed for 58 yards and a score on four carries. Seth Schie caught a 17-yard touchdown pass. Christian Raber finished 2-of-2 passing for 46 yards and a TD while rushing for 23 yards and a score.
Wyatt Miller led the defense in tackles while Colton Domer and Easton Pope had a sack.
Volleyball
Garaway defeated Tuslaw 25-15, 25-14, 25-19 in nonleague action on Aug. 23.
Charlee Yoder led the Lady Pirates with 25 assists and three aces. Audrey Miller had 10 kills, four aces and two blocks; Quinn Schwartz had eight kills, five aces and three blocks; and True Tango had six kills, four aces and 12 digs.
Boys golf
Garaway eked out a 155-156 win over Hiland on Aug. 20.
Henry Swartzentruber led the Pirates with a 37 and was followed by Lofton Numbers with a 38, Austin Tedrick with a 39 and Gavin McRobie with a 41.
