Stark Library has received a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The contribution recognizes the historic Canton Public Library, which opened in 1905 as one of 104 Carnegie libraries built in Ohio, and celebrates Andrew Carnegie’s vision of libraries as cornerstones for learning and community connection. Designed by local architect Guy Tilden in the Beaux Arts Classical style, the building remains a cherished historic landmark in Canton.

The gift will help support construction of the new Main Library, ensuring that Carnegie’s legacy of lifelong learning and community connection continues for generations to come.

As Carnegie once said, “A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never-failing spring in the desert.”

Stark Library expressed its gratitude to the Carnegie Corporation of New York for honoring its historic legacy and investing in the future of the new Main Library.
