At its meeting on April 13, Hartville Village Council heard a report from the Planning Commission from its April 6 meeting, where members discussed a general plan review for three storage buildings at 675 Wales Drive. The buildings will be used by business tenants. The Planning Commission recommended that Council approve the plan, and Council voted to do so.

Council also heard a report from the Board of Zoning Appeals from its April 9 meeting, where members voted to recommend approval of a request from Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for a variance to allow a larger sign at 876 W. Maple St. The BZA also recommended approval of a request from Ariell Kenyon for a larger sign at her business, Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar, at 841 W. Maple St. in the Giant Eagle plaza. Council voted to approve both recommendations.

Mayor Cynthia Billings reminded residents that taxes were due April 15.

Councilman Tim Hayden engaged in discussion about the strategic plan with Chris Remark and Ray Hexamer.

Council passed several items of legislation, including three by emergency: an ordinance to amend annual appropriations, a resolution for a payment to the Stark County engineer and a resolution for a payment to Donamarx Water Systems Inc. Councilman James Sullivan abstained from voting on the last item because his son works for that company.

Police Chief Kevin Moore presented his report. Village Engineer Samer Awadallah also presented his report, and Chris Novelli of the Stark County Health Department addressed Council to introduce himself.

Councilman Matt Kadas was absent.

After the business meeting, Council recessed to executive session to discuss a personnel matter, to consider investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, and to discuss matters required to be kept confidential by law. No action was taken.

Mayor Billings offered the invocation.

The next regular meeting of Hartville Village Council will be held in person Monday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 202 W. Maple St. The meeting will also be livestreamed on Facebook.
