The Hartville Lions Club will host its annual “Classic Chicken and Classic Cars” chicken barbecue fundraiser June 7 in conjunction with the HWC Automotive-sponsored “Come Back Car Show.”

The event will take place in the Hartville Commons parking lot, formerly the Longaberger Basket parking lot, at 224 E. Maple St. in Hartville, east of the railroad tracks.

The fundraiser is a presale-only event with drive-thru pickup from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meals cost $18 and include a half barbecued chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, roll, butter, cookie and bottled water. Sour cream will be available at no charge, and additional bottled water will be sold for $1 each.

Funds raised support state, national and international disaster relief efforts, juvenile diabetes and pediatric cancer research, Lake Township FISH, the Lake Community YMCA, scholarships for Lake High School graduates in partnership with the Uniontown Lions, and holiday gift cards for local families.

The club also sponsors Hartville Boy Scout Troop 45, donates to a local Girl Scout troop, provides vision screenings and assists community members with eyeglasses and eye surgeries. In addition, the club has collected more than 20,000 pounds of recycled plastic and donated eight Trex benches to the community through the effort.

The Joe Robertson family of Robertson Doors and JJ Robertson Concrete will again provide the chicken and barbecue preparation, including their “secret BBQ sauce.” Hartville Kitchen will provide the side dishes and desserts.

Additional sponsors include Starkey & Runkle LLC, Hartville RV, MD Body, Arnold Funeral Home, and Jim and Georgia Corbett. Organizers also thanked Pastor Ross Miller for allowing use of the Evermore Church facility to bake potatoes.

Scouts and leaders from Boy Scout Troop 45, along with Hartville Lions Club members, will assist at the event.

Meal tickets may be purchased from any Hartville Lion or from Lions members Pete or Sandy Procaccio at 330-309-6639. Tickets are also available through the Hartville Lions Facebook page via QR code and at Best Bib and Tucker.

The club will also sell tickets at Hartville Hardware’s west entrance from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 22, May 29 and May 30.
