Some residents of Lake Township would like to expand the Uniontown Police Department. At the Sept. 22 meeting of Lake Township Trustees, a resident of the Greentree allotment addressed the board to say that residents are gathering signatures to place an issue on the ballot. He said a number of residents are concerned about safety in the allotment. He said they were not asking for a decision that evening; they just wanted to let the trustees know they are working on it. In discussion that followed, trustees said they would talk with their legal counsel.

In other business, board vice president Steven Miller said he had talked with the township’s legal counsel about the court trial that day. He said the magistrate had not made an official ruling yet because she has 30 days to do so. The trial is about a property on Carl Street where a nuisance exists because of weeds that have not been removed.

Among the items of correspondence on the agenda was an invitation from the Greentown Volunteer Fire Department to its annual open house on Sunday, Oct. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. at the fire station at 10100 Cleveland Ave.

Trustees authorized expenditures totaling $242,161.38. They said most of that amount was for insurance and the purchase of two police cruisers.

This meeting was streamed on Facebook Live, although it was open to in-person public access. The video may be seen on the township Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LakeTownshipStarkCountyOhio/). Although there is no “public speaks” through the Facebook Live streaming, anyone watching who has questions may submit them by email to the township office at info@laketwpstarkco.com.

The next regular meeting of the Lake Township Board of Trustees will be held on Monday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. at the Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. North. All meetings are open to the public by way of live streaming.
