At their Oct. 27 meeting, Lake Township Trustees appointed a captain for the Uniontown Police Department. Former reserve officer Kevin Pearson will take office Nov. 10 at $41.50 per hour. He will be authorized to carry over 45 days from his previous employment at the University of Akron and will receive two weeks of vacation.

In other business, board vice president Steven Miller announced that he would resign Oct. 31. He said he and his wife sold their home faster than expected and plan to move out of Lake Township. Miller thanked the other trustees, the fiscal officer, township employees, and residents, noting that he has four meetings remaining in his term.

Trustees rescheduled their Nov. 10 meeting, previously moved to Nov. 6, to Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m. because of scheduling conflicts.

The board agreed to pay C. Tucker Cope $2,250 plus $750 per month to cover and secure steel building materials for the Road Department’s equipment storage building project to protect them from the weather. Trustees also authorized township legal counsel to remove the stormwater remediation proposal from that project.

The board approved total expenditures of $141,250.07, including about $69,000 for insurance.

Following the business meeting, trustees recessed into executive session for a personnel matter that included the fiscal officer. No action was taken.

The Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at Township Hall.

Board president Jeremy Yoder was absent.

The meeting was streamed on Facebook Live and open for in-person attendance. The video may be viewed on the township’s Facebook page. While “Public Speaks” is not available through live streaming, viewers may submit questions by email to the township office at info@laketwpstarkco.com.

The next regular meeting of the Lake Township Board of Trustees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. N. All meetings are open to the public and live-streamed.
