Lake Township zoning board approves variance request

Board grants side-yard setback variance for Northdale Street property during Dec. 18 public hearing

At a public hearing Dec. 18, the Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals approved a request by applicant Joseph Calderwood and property owner Nicholas Wartko for an area variance for minimum side-yard depth at a property at 3020 Northdale St. NW. The property is located in a low-density residential (R-1) zone.

Another applicant withdrew an application.

The next meeting of the Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. N. All meetings are open to the public.

The board consists of five members and one alternate, all appointed by the Lake Township trustees. The board hears and decides appeals, authorizes variance requests, and issues or revokes conditional zoning certificates. 

Individuals wishing to speak at BZA hearings are asked to take an oath or affirmation and state their name and address for the record. Decisions of the board are final but may be appealed to the Stark County Court of Common Pleas.
