Lake Township reschedules meeting

Published

At the end of their Aug. 11 meeting, Lake Township trustees rescheduled their next meeting from Monday, Aug. 25, to Thursday, Aug. 21, because of personal schedule conflicts. The meeting will be livestreamed.

In other business, the board declared nuisances at four properties because of noxious weeds: 2953 State St. NW, 3228 Rockingham Circle, 680 Pontius St., and a vacant property in the 1800 block of State St. NE. Notices will be sent by certified mail to the property owners, ordering the weeds to be removed within seven days of receipt. If the work is not done, trustees will hire it out and place the cost on the owner’s property tax bill.

The board accepted quotes from Kimble for the fall cleanup event in September.

Trustees authorized the services of Gatchell Grant Resources, which develops proposals. They noted that the township will not pay the company unless it secures funding.

The board agreed to pay $4,200 from the cemetery fund to Haymaker Tree and Lawn to remove a damaged tree in Woods Cemetery. They agreed to pay S&K Asphalt and Concrete $16,000 for crack sealing, sealcoating and striping of the parking lot at the township park, and $4,920 for the same services at the Uniontown Police Department parking lot.

Following discussion of additional funds required for the pickleball courts, trustees approved a change order for an additional $29,000.

In response to a request from a developer for a variance to waive temporary turnarounds for a dead-end street in a proposed development, trustees agreed they do not support the variance because it would present significant safety concerns.

A resident addressed the board with a complaint that the roads in the cemeteries need attention.

The board authorized expenditures totaling $153,023.77.

After the business meeting, trustees recessed to executive session for a personnel matter. No action was taken.

This meeting was streamed on Facebook Live, though it was also open for in-person attendance. The video can be viewed on the township’s Facebook page at facebook.com/LakeTownshipStarkCountyOhio. While there is no “Public Speaks” through Facebook Live, viewers may submit questions by email to the township office at info@laketwpstarkco.com.

The next regular meeting of the Lake Township Board of Trustees will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, at 5 p.m. at the Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. N. All meetings are open to the public and livestreamed.
