The Blue Streaks put their 3-0 record on the line as they opened Federal League play Sept. 12 at home against undefeated Perry. The Panthers struck first when, with about two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Connor Shephard scored from five yards out to give Perry a 7-0 lead.
That was all the scoring Perry managed as Lake responded with 31 unanswered points for a 31-15 victory to remain flawless on the season.
It didn’t hurt that the Panthers turned the ball over five times. Quarterback Cameron Treharn was intercepted three times, and Perry (3-1, 0-1) also lost two fumbles. Lake, which turned the ball over only once, capitalized on the miscues and held a 2-to-1 advantage in time of possession.
A week after losing Ty DeGeorge to an ankle injury, Davis Matson again led the Blue Streaks’ rushing attack, gaining 117 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. Quarterback Alex Quior was the main attraction, connecting with Quinn Snyder on a 22-yard touchdown pass before rushing for two more scores. His 22-yard run in the closing seconds of the third quarter gave Lake a 24-7 lead.
Quior finished 10-of-18 for 124 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and rushed for 28 yards on seven carries. Snyder caught five passes for 94 yards. Defensively, Angelo Wood led Lake (4-0, 1-0) with four tackles, six assists, one tackle for loss and one sack. Kyle Hammer, Cal Pierce and Brady Sommers each had an interception, while Braden Talkington and Aaron Mitchell recovered fumbles.
