Lake FISH Pantry expands efforts during Hunger Action Month

Community donations, matched gifts and a new facility aim to boost services and feed more families in need

The Lake Township FISH Food Pantry, now partnered with Agape Bread Ministry, is seeking donations during Hunger Action Month to support local families and finish renovations on its new facility.

The Lake Township FISH Food Pantry, which now includes the Agape Bread Ministry, is continuing its efforts to ask for donations during September, designated as Hunger Action Month. Even though there is plenty of food in America, 1 in 7 people in Northeast Ohio — including nearly 20% of children — still lack the food they need to thrive. FISH is calling on the community to help support families across the region, emphasizing that Lake Township residents can fight hunger most effectively when working together.

Last week, Hartville Hardware matched every nonperishable food donation item for item, doubling the impact of the community’s generosity and helping to feed twice as many families.

Donations can also be brought directly to the food pantry at 1117 Sunnyside in Hartville on Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Financial donations can be made online at https://givebutter.com/lake-township-fish. For every $1 donated, FISH provides three meals for families in need.

Renovations are continuing at FISH’s new facility, with a move-in date expected soon. The new space will allow the pantry to serve more neighbors, create a more comfortable client experience, and eventually expand opportunities for education and outreach, including classes on will writing, budgeting, gardening, cooking and insurance assistance. FISH anticipates a 25% increase in services, particularly as its partnership with Agape grows.

“We couldn’t do it without the incredible generosity of our community. Every gift brings us one step closer,” said Kelsey Wood, FISH director. “We have various donation tiers, but today I wanted to highlight those who are able to donate $500 or more. They will be honored with a plaque on our Donor Recognition Wall in the new lobby.”

Thanks to long-term community support, FISH has already raised $175,000 — half of its $350,000 fundraising goal. More information about how to help can be found at https://givebutter.com/ltfbuild.
