Hartville Village Council is seeking a new member following the resignation of Councilman Frank Gant, Mayor Cynthia Billings announced at the Aug. 11 meeting. Council voted to accept Gant’s resignation, and Council President James Sullivan outlined the rules for filling the vacancy. The deadline for applications is Aug. 29, and details are available on the Village’s Facebook page at facebook.com/VillageofHartville.

Mayor Billings noted this was the only meeting in August and reminded that Village Hall will be closed Sept. 1 for Labor Day. Council approved the Planning Commission’s recommendation to replat two lots on East Maple Street owned by Arbor Grove Properties. Billings also reported that the owners of a property in the 700 block of West Maple Street have not mowed the grass despite notices, and Council voted to have the property mowed.

Council passed by emergency an ordinance setting the fee schedule for building, heating, electrical, and zoning permits, and adopted both an ordinance and resolution for annexation. They also heard third readings of ordinances prohibiting right turns on red at South Prospect Avenue and East Maple Street, and at West Maple Street, Kent Avenue and Steffy Avenue.

Police Chief Kevin Moore presented his report. Councilman Tim Hayden was absent, and Mayor Billings gave the invocation. Due to technical issues, the meeting was not streamed on Facebook Live. The next regular meeting will be in person at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Village Hall, 202 West Maple St.
