Hartville Council approves Danbury Glen replat, reviews reports and passes 2026 budget measures

Meeting includes updates on policing, paving, strategic planning and upcoming BZA variances ahead of Dec. 22 session

At its meeting on Dec. 8, Hartville Village Council accepted the recommendation from the Planning Commission to approve a request for a replat of Phase III of the Danbury Glen subdivision. The Board of Zoning Appeals will be asked to consider variances for the width of some lots and issues with the roads in the subdivision at its meeting on Dec. 23. The next meeting of the Planning Commission will be Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. to consider requests for replats of two lots.

In other business, in the absence of Mayor Cynthia Billings, Councilman James Sullivan reported that the Evening in the Village event had gone well, with good weather and a good turnout.

Police Chief Kevin Moore presented his report. He thanked all who contributed to the department’s Fill a Cruiser event for Thanksgiving. He said the Shop with a Cop event would take place on Dec. 13.

Village Engineer Samer Awadallah presented his report, including that all final documents for the 2025 paving project had been sent to the village office the previous week.

Councilman Steven Reisch asked for more information about the budgets from the fiscal officer. The Finance Committee, of which he is chairman, met on Dec. 1 for discussion of the budgets.

Councilman Tim Hayden presented a report on the strategic plan.

Council passed several items of legislation by emergency, including the third reading of an ordinance making annual appropriations for the 2026 fiscal year; a resolution to authorize the mayor to enter into a contract between the village and the city of Canton to provide legal representation to the village for the prosecution of criminal cases; a resolution authorizing the transfer of funds from the general fund to the street construction maintenance and repair fund and the state highway fund; and an ordinance amending annual appropriations for current expenses for the 2025 fiscal year.

Councilman Sullivan offered the invocation.

The next regular meeting of Hartville Village Council will be held in person on Monday, Dec. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 202 West Maple St. The meeting will also be livestreamed on Facebook.
