What’s new at the fair in 2024?
The 178th Harrison County Fair begins Monday, June 24, and runs through Saturday, June 29. Rides, concessions, shows, competition and entertainment that ranges from square dancing to truck pulls, are on the schedule for a week of family fun for all ages.
There are several new events and competitions this year. Dessert of the fair competition is limited to recipes made with honey as an ingredient and is designed to complement the growing honey show. The prize, sponsored by Bosler’s Bees and Accessories of Deersville, is $100 for grand and $25 for reserve. All entries will be sold at auction on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. It is open to any and all. Another new event is Bucket of Junk. Registrants were provided with a bucket of junk from which they are to make a creation. The creations will remain on display all week. A peoples choice award has also been added where the public can vote for their favorite exhibit.
The 7th through 12th departments continue to grow and once again, the first three places will be awarded $50, $30, and $20, respectively, and new this year, all divisions of all departments payout for first and second at $10 and $5 with no entry fees. So, bring in that dozen of eggs, that best loaf of bread, that special photograph, that knitted scarf, that unusual antique or a vase of your favorite cut flowers from your beds! Entry is open to one and all, including residents of other counties. THE DEALINE FOR ENTRY IS SUNDAY AT 6 P.M. In addition to the yearly Junior Fair animal shows, there has been a carcass show added to the mix. This will be judged before the fair and winners announced at the fair. For the regular shows, there will be events in the mornings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Traditional evening shows start at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The auction will start Friday at p.m. Horses will show Thursday and Friday mornings with a fun show on Saturday.
In the evenings in the grandstands will be motocross, quad racing, rough truck racing by Derby Dog Off Road Series, truck and tractor pulls two nights, and demo derby by Old Skool Demolition Derby. New this year, a radio-controlled car demolition derby will precede the Old Skool Demo! For the kids, there is a pedal tractor pull on Monday.
