Council members for the Village of Cadiz met Thursday, Dec. 4 for the next to last meeting of the year. Maplewood Drive was again discussed with Village Administrator Brandon Ludwig telling council they had received signatures from the three brothers for securing the sale of the property to the village.

Village Solicitor Chuck Kidder said there were two components to the purchase with one being the waiver and release to let them do the work and the other involving the signing of the purchase contract for $1.

Kidder said they discovered some additional liens on the property. “More than what we thought were on it,” he said, "so we may not want it. In other words we may not want to buy it.”

He said those liens were in excess of $20,000, but he said the village was not obligated to complete the purchase.

“They can waive that because there’s not the value there,” Kidder said. “But that’s where it stands.”

Under the heading of property, Kidder told council there were three complaints with the village named as a defendant. He said they were properties with outstanding tax liens attached to them and foreclosing for tax purposes.

Ludwig said he didn’t feel they were worth bidding on as one was a vacant lot on Grant Street and the other two on Muskingum Street as well. Kidder said the debts on the three properties were more than $55,000, $6,600 and $202,000, respectively.

“And that doesn’t include any outstanding liens that the village would have,” Kidder said.

Ludwig also talked about the work being done on Christmas Card Lane at Sally Buffalo Park. He said the setup has been revamped with more being added. The big showcase for that scene will be held Saturday, Dec. 13.

Christmas Card Lane includes displays surrounding the old cabin.

“Right now I believe every shelter is taken up for display, and the covered bridge is taken up as well,” Ludwig said. “So there’s going to be a lot more addition to that than just the Christmas cards.”

Ludwig said he hopes that will bring a lot more people and traffic to pass through the park. He said information covering the park’s display would be up on the village’s Facebook page.

“We’re seeing a lot of positive things going on in the Uptown, and we hope that continues,” Ludwig said.
