Scio Summerfest Pickleball Tournament highlights champions and community spirit
Third annual event at Barr Community Center crowns men’s, women’s and mixed doubles winners; weekly free pickleball sessions continue year-round.
The third annual Scio Summerfest Pickleball Tournament drew a strong crowd of players and spectators Aug. 23 at the Barr Community Center. Competition was lively across all divisions, highlighting both skill and community spirit.
In the men’s bracket, Travis and Pat Brown won the Men’s Doubles Championship and the gold medal. John Sanders and Chad Garrott earned silver in the Over 50 Doubles Division, while Josh and Pat Moore claimed bronze.
In women’s play, Kathy Brown and Doc Bradley captured the Women’s Doubles Championship. The Mixed Doubles title went to Kerri Kaurich and Dave Miller. Kaurich also won the Gamma Rainmaker paddle raffle, courtesy of Gamma Sports.
Several players later joined the Scio Pickleball Float in the Summerfest Grand Parade.
“I’d like to thank the Puskarich Public Library for allowing us to host this event and hold our weekly open courts here in the community center,” tournament director Mike Palmer said. “In addition, I want to offer a big thank you to all the volunteers that made this tournament possible.”
The Barr Community Center continues to support the sport with free weekly pickleball sessions on four indoor courts: Mondays from 5–8 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and Fridays from 5:30–8:30 p.m. Equipment is provided at no cost for new players.
