Scio Council reviews new water and sewer rates

Council members spent about a minute reviewing the rates but offered no comments, as the rates had already been approved, and the meeting continued.
The new rates take effect Jan. 1, 2026. For inside residential water customers, the distribution base rate is $39.49. The rate for usage from 1 to 999 gallons ranges from $1.13 to $40.62. The 1,000 to 1,999 gallon rate ranges from $2.26 to $41.75, and the 2,000 to 2,999 gallon rate ranges from $3.39 to $42.88.
For inside non-residential customers, the distribution base rate is $50.01. Using the same gallon categories as residential customers, rates range from $1.13 to $51 for 1 to 999 gallons, $2.26 to $52.27 for 1,000 to 1,999 gallons and $3.39 to $53.40 for 2,000 to 2,999 gallons. Rates for inside multi-use customers are the same as non-residential rates. For all inside water usage customers, the charge for usage over 3,000 gallons is $6.58 per 1,000 gallons of overage.
For outside residential and outside multi-use customers, the distribution base rate is $53.94. The rate for 1 to 999 gallons is calculated by adding $1.13 to the base rate. For 1,000 to 1,999 gallons, $2.26 is added, and for 2,000 to 2,999 gallons, $3.39 is added. The charge for usage over 3,000 gallons is $9.66 per 1,000 gallons of overage.
Outside non-residential customers have a higher distribution base rate of $79.67. The over-3,000-gallon rate for these customers increases to $16.74 per 1,000 gallons.
The sewer rate section includes both inside and outside rates. Inside residential customers have a collection base rate of $43.16. The inside non-residential rate is $54.67, and inside multi-use is $56.19. Outside residential customers have a base rate of $60.34, outside non-residential customers are charged $85.36 and outside multi-use customers are charged $62.01.
For sewer usage from 1 to 999 gallons, $1.20 is added to the applicable collection base rate. For 1,000 to 1,999 gallons, $2.40 is added, and for 2,000 to 2,999 gallons, $3.60 is added.
For usage over 3,000 gallons, the rate per 1,000 gallons of overage is $7.20 for inside residential and inside non-residential customers. Inside multi-use customers are charged $7.40. Outside residential customers are charged $10.56, outside non-residential customers $17.93 and outside multi-use customers $10.85.
