Scio American Legion donates $10K to Pulling for a Cure
Legion Post 482 partners with local nonprofit to aid cancer patients; fundraiser set for Oct. 4 at Harrison County Fairgrounds
The Scio American Legion Post 482 recently donated $10,000 to Pulling for a Cure, an organization that supports cancer patients in Harrison County and the surrounding area. The donation and presentation of the check took place about two weeks ago.
The approval for the donation was made during a meeting attended by several legion members, Commander Rick Thompson, Finance Officer Mike Bower, Pulling for a Cure members Sharon Butterfield-Johnson and Kiz Dulkoski-Winter, and Joe Myers. Butterfield-Johnson and Dulkoski-Winter gave a presentation about the group’s mission and announced an upcoming fundraising event.
The event is scheduled for Oct. 4 at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. It will feature the Carl Butterfield Car Show at 9 a.m. followed by a tractor pull at 3 p.m.
“Sharon and I continue to pound the pavement for the organization, and it is very rewarding,” Dulkoski-Winter said. “We have been in contact with some very kind, warm, and loving people, and some not so kind.”
According to the group, all money raised will be used to support cancer patients in the region. Donations can be made by check payable to Harrison County Pulling for a Cure and mailed to Pulling for a Cure, Box 79, Cadiz, OH 43907.
“We as members of American Legion Post 482 in Scio, Ohio, were very pleased to be able to partner with Pulling for a Cure and help support this worthy cause,” Thompson said. “One of the foundational pillars of our organization is veteran rehabilitation and benefits, and some of this money goes to help our members who are battling cancer and its effects.”
He added that the post, which has more than 300 members, also works to support veterans, spouses, families, and the communities they live in.
“We were honored to be asked to help with this cause,” Thompson said.
