Harrison County is a thriving, growing community nestled in Southeast Ohio. While small, the communities in Harrison are tight-knit, filled with hard-working individuals who take pride in their lives.
Contrary to what recent news might suggest, there is always something new happening within the county limits. In the last few years, the commissioners have worked to revitalize villages through grants to take down old buildings, renovate spaces, and create better lives for residents.
Bowerston Fire Department Captain Adam Reardon recently commented online under an article he viewed as disparaging Harrison. Reardon shared how much the county has been improving over the last few years: “Both Scio and Bowerston Fire Departments have nice new additions… The MWCD upgraded the marina and park. Lots of newer businesses moved into the county through gas and oil. The beautiful Conotton Creek Trail is constantly improving. There’s a new school in Cadiz, a new school serving the Conotton Valley portion of the county, a new jail, and an Amish population moving into Scio and Freeport areas being good community members. Many area communities just used grant money to tear down dilapidated buildings. The Village of Bowerston is working on big infrastructure updates.”
The owner of Lakeside Painting spoke under the same article about how much the county means: “Harrison County is a beautiful place. One of the best areas in the whole state. I spent my childhood growing up on Tappan. After living in many different cities across the state for many years, I decided to buy a home and relocate my family back to this area in 2020. It was a great decision. I challenge anyone who thinks Harrison County is ‘bad’ to go live in Columbus for a year. Then you can really see what bad is.”
County resident Marsha Dodds also shared her thoughts on the negative depiction of the area: “What an awful depiction of our beautiful county. They should be ashamed for not reporting about our beautiful new school, gorgeous lakes and parks, our many thriving businesses and the homeowners who take pride in their properties.”
Although the recent article was poorly received by residents, it spurred many to voice their love for the county, and many pictures were shared in the comments that showcased the beauty, resilience, and pride found in Harrison County.
