The Harrison County Agricultural Society recognized Dr. Scott Pendleton as its outstanding fair supporter during its Sept. 8 meeting, honoring his years of service and generosity to the county fair.
“When he was fair vet and he’d come to our place a few times you couldn’t get him to give you a bill,” Board President Richard Eberhart said.
Treasurer Kevin Willoughby said Pendleton still contributes to the fair and “he does a lot” with donating tagging that involve veterinarian duties.
The board also held its annual election of officers. For president, Eberhart was the nominee and he will remain as president of the HCAS. For vice president, Chris Kellar was nominated and appointed. For secretary, Amy Clay remained in her current position. Willoughby was again appointed as treasurer with Brooke Bardall as assistant. For junior fair manager, Greg Sproull was appointed to that position.
Bardall raised the topic of the spring dinner and ticket prices, suggesting a price of $30.
Willoughby agreed, saying it was not the ticket price but the participation that mattered most. “My two cents worth would be don’t sell tickets to people that don’t show up,” he said. He added that once people attend, they are likely to spend more on raffles and other fundraising, which is “more important than just selling tickets.”
“Because a lot of people think they’re doing you a favor by buying the ticket and in this particular case they’re not,” he said.
When asked why more tickets were not sold, Willoughby pointed to capacity limits. “You can’t sell more than you can have everybody show up,” he said.
March 14 was set as the date for the spring dinner. Tickets will be presale only, with none sold at the door.
