Lady Huskies fall to East Liverpool, 57-49

The Harrison Central girls basketball team came up 8 points short Monday, Dec. 22, in a comeback attempt against visiting East Liverpool. The Lady Potters held on for a 57-49 win.

East Liverpool led 18-11 after the first quarter, and that early 7-point advantage proved to be the difference. The game featured physical play in the paint, with East Liverpool controlling many of the rebounds on both ends of the floor.

The teams combined for 29 points in the opening quarter and added 48 more in the second. Harrison Central trailed by 8 at halftime, then outscored East Liverpool 16-13 in the third quarter to cut the deficit.

East Liverpool led 41-36 at the end of the third. Harrison Central continued to fight in the fourth, but the Potters matched the Huskies down the stretch, scoring 16 points in the final period to Harrison Central’s 13.

In the opener, the Harrison Central junior varsity team won 16-6. The JV game was played in two quarters to allow time for a teacher appreciation ceremony, giving each junior and senior team member the opportunity to recognize an educator who has made an impact on their academic goals.

For Harrison Central, Kara Blackburn scored 9 points, Ella Smith added 9, Mik Pelegreen had 7, Kelsy Powers scored 6, Emily Cope scored 6 and Ava Conley scored 6. Bailey Smith and Ady Stull scored 3 points each.

In 3-point shooting, Smith made 3, Cope made 2, and Blackburn and Pelegreen each added 1.

Lisa Andrews scored 16 points to lead East Liverpool.
