The Jewett Craft Show is preparing to celebrate its 55th year, continuing a beloved community tradition that began with founder Virbel Kimmel, who wanted to support the Jewett Volunteer Fire Department and bring residents together.
“The very first show was held at the Archer Township Building on Route 9,” said craft show committee member Jody Hennis. “As it grew, it found a permanent home at the fire department, where it continues to thrive today.”
The show is always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“This year marks a special milestone — instead of renting a tent, the JVFD is thrilled to host the event in their newly constructed truck garage,” Hennis said.
Applications for vendors were mailed out early this year, and all spaces are now filled, though a waiting list is available in case of cancellations.

“Between the firehouse and the new garage, visitors will find approximately 86 tables filled with homemade and handmade crafts,” Hennis said. “Many of our vendors have been part of the show for more than 15 years, and this year we’re excited to welcome at least 20 new participants eager to showcase their wares.”

The fire department and craft show committee work closely each year to organize the event, which has become one of the department’s main fundraisers. The show also coincides with Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29, emphasizing the importance of supporting local makers and businesses.
“The show has become a cherished homecoming tradition,” Hennis said. “It’s always heartwarming to see people visiting family for Thanksgiving make the craft show part of their weekend — reconnecting with neighbors, supporting local vendors and kicking off the holiday season together.”
Hennis encourages visitors to make a day of it by stopping at local restaurants for a meal and local hospitality.
“We’re excited to celebrate 55 years of tradition,” Hennis said. “We can’t wait to see everyone there.”
