Huskies compete at West Jefferson Invitational

The Harrison Central varsity wrestling team returned to action after the holiday break, traveling to Sheridan for the West Jefferson Invitational held Dec. 29-30.
“They wrestled hard the last two days and got better in just about every round,” coach Bill Bryant said. “The team collectively went 25-39 with five of the nine wrestlers finishing the tournament with winning records.”
Knox McKibben led the Huskies, going 9-0 at 215 pounds to win a championship. McKibben was also selected the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.
Other Harrison Central placers included Jaden Harris and Aiden Hensley. Harris, a senior at 190 pounds, went 5-3 and finished fourth. Hensley, at 120 pounds, went 6-2 and placed fifth.
The varsity Huskies return to action Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Indian Creek.
Junior high wins Indian Creek Invitational
The Harrison Central junior high wrestling team continued its strong season by winning the Indian Creek Invitational. It marked the team’s second tournament championship of the year.
Harrison Central placed 15 wrestlers in the top five, with three earning titles. Isaiah Gotschall, Rage Moreland and Bentley Manbeck each won a championship.
Jordan Simpson, Loudon Smith, Nelson Lan, Levon Sturgeon and Kyle Adkins placed second in their respective weight classes. Lane Hibbits, Caden Jenkins and Landon Coffman finished third. Steven Renner and Jaxon Ferrell placed fourth, and Kale Sproull placed fifth.
The team’s performance followed a Dec. 29 trip to the Cambridge Tournament, where Harrison Central finished 18th out of 38 teams. At that event, Lan placed third and Logan Stephens finished sixth.
Harrison Central also had two female wrestlers compete in the East Liverpool Queen of the Hill tournament Dec. 28. Zaila Morehead placed second and Azaria Linderman finished fifth.
