Mayor Mike Pelegreen and Village Administrator Don Writesall attended the Harrison County Commissioners meeting to request financial help for repairing the village’s siren message board. Commissioner Paul Prevot previously toured Hopedale and noted additional repair needs, including the Penn Central slip, a railroad track water issue, failing creek pipes and sinkholes along Ohio 159. The county’s Community Improvement Corporation’s Jodi Hennis is arranging a Zoom meeting with the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association to explore funding for the projects.
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District’s Erin Wright asked the village to secure cost estimates from two engineering firms by Aug. 22. Diversified Engineering and W.E. Quicksall & Associates are preparing the estimates.
Under Parks, Joe Johnson, Kendall Johnson and Todd Stringer repaired the play ship at the village park, which village workers are also repainting. Luther said he would look into purchasing new swings. A new gate was installed at a cost of $2,000, and all park benches are being repaired and painted at the village garage.
Council also announced that hydrant flushing has been completed along with the water tank structure. Next steps include altitude valve installation, electrical work, plumbing and crack sealing from mid-August through the end of the month.
Under Property, a motion was approved to send violation citations to two residents on Main and East Main streets. Resolution 2025-04 was passed to renew the village’s 2.5-mill street repair levy.
