The Harrison Husky 14U Baseball Team has been on a winning streak in their bids in regular season and tournament play. The team is very resilient and has overcome some very tough opponent leads in the early going.

“Our 14U Baseball Team has been spectacular in our most recent tournament run,” said Head Coach Ryan Wood. “Combined with this tournament run and a very successful junior high season, the team has turned in an outstanding 44-4 record. We primarily play a division up (60-foot pitching and 90-foot bases) to prepare us for high school baseball. Our team has been playing together four years now while under our attempts to help the kids play more frequently and to provide new challenges for them.”

The 14 U Huskies play spring, summer, and fall baseball and train during the winter. They begin by playing additional pick-up games around their Recreational Baseball schedules. As they move along in their pick-up games, they eventually transition into other local tournaments. Over the last couple of seasons with some struggling, the Huskies are finally seeing a lot of success.

“We won four tournaments last year, and our first this year – last weekend in Boardman, Ohio,” Wood added. “After we were rained-out on Saturday, May 25, the kids managed to play their way through the bracket to win four consecutive games and win the championship on Sunday.”

In getting to the championship game, the Huskies came back from a 3-0 first inning deficit against the PA Playmakers. Lance Smith would hit an over-the-fence homerun following Emerson Wood’s RBI single. Next, Knox McKibben scored, and then later in the game would drive in the go ahead runs. We got a very strong performance from Gage Stoneking while on the mound, and McKibben closed the game for the 6-3 win.

“Throughout the day all nine players made plays at the plate and on the field,” added Wood. “Kolton Mizer and Hunter Snyder led the team at the plate with runs batted in. Logan Dewees, Zack Harbold, and Colson Crothers made several highlight-worthy defensive plays throughout the day. Additionally, the Huskies outscored their opponents 25-5 on the day. The Huskies plan to continue their tournament play throughout the summer, then move into the high school league in the fall.

The 14U Husky team is comprised of players Gage Stoneking, Colon Crothers, Kolton Mizer,

Hunter Snyder, Lance Smith, Knox McKibben, Emerson Wood, Logan Dewees, and Zack Harbold. The team is managed and coached by Head Coach Ryan Wood, and Assistant Coaches Todd Mizer, Tom Snyder, and Bill Stoneking.
