The Harrison County Health Department serves as a local resource dedicated to protecting and improving community health. While the department does not operate like a traditional business, staff members work daily — behind the scenes and on the front lines — to help keep Harrison County healthy, safe and thriving.
From immunizations and other clinical services to WIC, environmental health protections, prevention programs and community wellness initiatives, the department provides support for residents at every stage of life.
Services range from assisting new parents and offering fitness opportunities for older adults to responding to public health concerns, providing mobile flu shot clinics, conducting inspections and partnering with local schools and organizations. Department officials said the team is made up of neighbors helping neighbors.
These efforts are guided by a purpose to enhance the health and well-being of every resident by preventing disease and promoting wellness. The department envisions a Harrison County where residents have opportunities to access care, health promotion, disease prevention and education.
The department said its work is rooted in core values of integrity, respect, accessibility, health equity, compassion, collaboration and informed decision-making.
“We are here for Harrison County,” said Katie Norris, health commissioner. “Our team cares deeply about the people we serve and is committed to making sure everyone has access to the resources they need to live their most healthful lives.”
The department partners with local businesses, schools and community organizations and also has plans for 2026.
“We are excited to continue expanding services, strengthening partnerships and finding new ways to meet the needs of our community,” Norris said.
