Harrison County Cancer Crusaders honor survivors and caregivers
The Harrison County Cancer Crusaders hosted their annual Survivors and Caregivers Celebration Friday, Aug. 1, at Wallace Lodge in Sally Buffalo Park. The event drew survivors, their families and friends for an evening of fellowship, entertainment and support.
Following opening remarks from organization President Julie McPeak, vocalist Lynden Myers performed two musical selections. An invocation preceded the evening meal, which was prepared and served by members of the First Church of Christ on Main Street in Cadiz. The menu included 105 round steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans and individual desserts.
“This evening would not be complete without a meal,” said organization Vice President Joy Barcroft. “The First Church of Christ has once again prepared a wonderful meal service. The Harrison County Cancer Crusaders would like to thank the church elders for allowing this continued contribution during our annual celebration. And of course, along with the meal you can see all of these wonderful people bringing your meal to your tables. Every one of them has worked so hard this evening.”
The celebration also featured a Chinese auction, a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing, with winners announced Saturday.
“We would like to thank our community sponsors, businesses and individuals who support our mission,” McPeak said. “Celebrating our survivors and their caregivers brings us so much joy and happiness. Our organization provided more than $60,000 in financial assistance in 2024. We are blessed to have such support. If you are a cancer patient actively receiving treatment and need aid, please go to our Facebook page, Harrison County Cancer Crusaders, and send us a message.”
The festivities continued Saturday, Aug. 2, with breakfast, games, races, food service until 2 p.m. and a car show beginning at 11 a.m.
