Harrison Central rallies past Bellaire in Buckeye 8 opener
Lady Huskies overcome early deficit to win in three sets behind balanced team effort
Harrison Central’s volleyball team shook off a sluggish start to defeat Bellaire in three sets Saturday at the Buckeye 8 Championships at the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center.
With head coach Grace Godich away on a prior commitment, assistant coach Taya Rocchi guided the Lady Huskies to their second straight win in the tournament.
Bellaire took the opening set 25-20 after erasing Harrison’s early 13-6 lead. The Big Reds carried momentum into the second set, jumping ahead 10-5, but the Huskies battled back to tie at 15, 16 and 20. Strong serving and well-placed kills pushed Harrison ahead for a 25-23 win.
The decisive set saw multiple ties at 8, 13, 17, 18 and 20 before Harrison surged ahead 21-20. The Huskies closed strong, taking the set 25-21 and the match.
Madison Taylor tallied 2 aces, 5 points and 9 digs. Emma Jarvis contributed 3 aces, 10 points, 5 kills and 5 digs. Leah Grady finished with 1 ace, 4 points, 3 kills, 9 assists and 14 digs. Jaylin Ward added 2 aces, 5 points, 5 kills, 2 blocks and 1 dig. Hannah Grady rounded out the effort with 2 aces, 10 points, 4 kills, 13 assists and 7 digs.
