Harrison Central falls to Indian Creek after strong start
Huskies take opening set but Redskins rally to win match
What began as a promising night for the Harrison Central volleyball team ended in disappointment Monday as the Lady Huskies fell to Indian Creek in four sets.
Harrison opened the Sept. 22 match with a 25-18 win, showing the same confidence that had carried the team to a recent victory over the Redskins at home. But Indian Creek regrouped and swept the next three sets, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-19, to claim the match.
“This was a hard-fought game,” Harrison Central head coach Grace Godich said. “We have had a lot of challenges these past few weeks and last night was no exception. We have switched lineups and positions a lot recently, and the girls have been very open to trying new things. I am very proud with how they played. They all did great.”
The second set proved to be a turning point. With the score tight at 21-19, Indian Creek surged ahead, closing the set on a run that gave them momentum to carry through the rest of the night.
Harrison showed fight in the fourth set and appeared poised to force a decisive fifth. But a couple of close line calls swung momentum back to the Redskins, who closed out the match 25-19.
For Harrison, Leah Grady led the way with six aces, four kills, 10 assists and 14 digs. Jaylin Ward added three aces, eight kills, a block and three digs. Hannah Grady recorded eight kills, 13 assists and five digs, while Madison Taylor chipped in five aces and 18 digs.
In junior varsity action, Harrison dropped both sets, 25-18 and 25-15.
