A Wednesday, Sept. 3, Harrison Central cross-country meet at home proved a success, according to head Coach Doug Drapp. The meet featured six schools, including the host Huskies. Making the trip were Indian Creek, Steubenville, Union Local, Toronto and Brooke. About 80 runners competed.

“We have been anxious about getting the opportunity to run at home,” Drapp said. “We ran a couple opening meets in Riverside and Akron that were pretty tough. Our kids always put forth their best efforts, and I continue to be very proud of them.

“We have been talking about how things would turn out at home when we got the chance. Well, today we found out. Those two opening meets helped our kids get stronger and we learned more about pacing ourselves.”

For Harrison Central, Kodence Ortiz finished seventh out of 15 runners, and Knox Krupinski placed 10th in the same field.

In the girls race, Aubrie Moss crossed the line seventh out of 22 runners, while Lillian Renner finished 16th.

In the boys race, Michael Abel placed ninth out of 25, and Bryce Sobleski finished 20th.

“The kids’ times were really good,” Drapp said. “It makes me glad to say that this sure was a good race for us. Though the weather was a little windy and warm, our kids pushed and did great overall. We had several comments from both Harrison and other schools stating that Harrison is definitely the hardest course around here that we have ever run.”
