Harrison Central bowling teams split week after weather delays

The Husky boys earned their first victory while girls suffered their first loss

The Harrison Central bowling schedule shifted this week after school was canceled due to inclement weather, moving matches to Wednesday and Thursday. The first matchup of the week was against Buckeye Local at JR Lanes in New Athens.

The Husky boys earned their first victory of the season after falling to St. Clairsville after Thanksgiving. Leading Harrison Central were Aiden Pettit with games of 185-155, Aaden Albaugh with 177-175 and Brody Zeroski with 155. The Huskies won 1,827–1,736.

The Harrison Central girls suffered their first loss of the season against the Panthers. Top scorers were Tayla Thompson with 173-168 and Jaylie Byers with 159-158.

Harrison Central faced Martins Ferry the next day at St. Clairsville Lanes. The boys extended their winning streak with a 1,693–1,395 victory over the Purple Riders. High rollers were Owen Whitacre with 181-169, Pettit with 168-162 and LJ Mitchell with 151.

The girls improved to 2-1 after defeating Martins Ferry 1,841–1,364. High game contributors were Byers with 186-173, Brelee Thomas with 178, Mercedez Cooper with 159 and Thompson with 148-142.

Martins Ferry did not field a junior varsity team, but Harrison Central’s JV recorded high scores. For the boys, Cory Kirkpatrick rolled 222-148, Colston Kirkpatrick 171-146, Fred Riester 138-136, Hunter Patterson 130-127 and Jai Wurschum 122.

JV girls’ high scorers were Olivia Dulkoski with 145-137 and Londyn Kolinski with 144.

Harrison Central were to compete against Indian Valley Saturday, Dec. 6, at Indian Valley.

Members of the bowling team recently volunteered their time and talent to assist with a senior project providing a free Thanksgiving meal to area residents.
