Encino gifts Cadiz Police Department with K-9

“We are so grateful to have Encino Energy of Carrollton to donate the gift of funds to purchase a second K-Officer,” said Cadiz Police Chief Ryan McCann. “We are also so fortunate to have found a vehicle to transport the K-9. Lieutenant Ron Carter and I sat down and talked about what we could possibly do to find an appropriate vehicle, and I told him to go ahead and see what you can find. Luckily, while looking through Facebook we were able to come up with something.”

“Encino Energy is partnering with the Cadiz Police Department by providing funding for an additional K-9 unit,” said Zach Kent – Encino Community Relations Representative. “The new K-9 unit will aid in providing officer backup while keeping the residents and businesses of Cadiz safe. Encino will present the check from the Encino Energy Community Partnership Program at the Cadiz Police Department, and discuss collaborative efforts taken to continue the company’s vision for private-public partnerships that support its core values. We hope you can join our EH&S team along with members from the Cadiz PD for these important announcements,” Kent added.

The gift that Encino presented to the village was a check for $11, 000. The gift, according to Encino, was the largest ever presented to the need identified by the Police Department. Scott Fairhurst – Director of Environment Affairs at Encino, was on hand to assist in the presentation of the check.

“We at Encino maintain a strong community safety objective,” Fairhurst stated. “What the Cadiz Police Department is looking for in purchasing this K-9 to help keep the community safe, is right in line with our company’s values. The Police Department was instrumental in reaching out to me and collaborating with them has been fantastic.”

“For transportation of the second K-9, we needed to come up with about $10,000,” Lieutenant Carter said. “The vehicle we found was a good deal, better than we had expected. It is already complete with the cage in the transporting area. This K-9 will be a tool in our efforts of keeping drugs and other substances off the streets and under control. When people know you have a drug dog, they sometimes automatically just give up. We all are very thankful for the assistance Encino has provided in this matter.”

The K-9 Officer that will be used in Cadiz is still in the selection process in Columbus. The dog itself is from ‘Storm Dog Tactical’ in Sunbury, Ohio. While Lieutenant Carter manages the current K-9, the additional K-9 Officer will be under the care and supervision of Officer Lionel Woods. Woods came to Cadiz from Carrollton, Ohio, and has 14 years of experience in police work and K-9 management.

“I am very excited to be managing the new K-9,” Woods said. “I too appreciate the kind donation from Encino. We have had a lot of success with our current K-9 officer, and we anticipate that the second will increase our managing the keeping of drugs off the streets here in Cadiz.”

Both Carter and Chief McCann agreed that having K-9s as part of your force practically pays for itself. Donations come in for the K-9s in the form of food and support from the local veterinarian. The Purina Company is also a major contributor to the department.
