Coach Thomas reflects on team improvement

The Harrison Central Jr. High Lady Huskies Softball team wrapped up the season last week with a record of 9-6-1 under the direction of Coach Joe Thomas. Thomas, in his third season with the girls, first as an assistant and now Head Coach states his girls have made massive improvement, winning against Indian Creek (having lost there last year) and having won on Monday against the Cambridge Bobcats in a double header.

Regarding the losses against Big Red, Edison and Sherrard, he states, “We were in the game, they just outlasted us. They are all three pretty top-notch schools. “

The Jr. High team is not affiliated with the school. Coach Darrin Young (Head Varsity Coach) along with another area coach put the teams together three years ago and it has grown each year since.

“I’m really excited with the freshman class that’s there now and this eighth-grade class along with the seventh grade all get together I think it will be a pretty good team,” states Thomas. Darrin (Young) is pretty excited for it too. “I am thankful he has given me the opportunity to work with the girls. These are the kind of girls I have coached forever so it is really exciting and sad at the same time with them getter older.”

Thomas also boosts of his assistant coaches helping out as well as the good kids making his job easy. “I have a good relationship with these girls. I have a work hard/play hard ethic,” states Thomas.

Talk of the summer team is already in the making.
