Cadiz council hears proposal from Republic Services
Company offers trash, recycling plan for Sally Buffalo Park facilities
At its first meeting of September, Cadiz council heard an offer from Republic Services to handle trash and recycling for part of the village.
Zach Alexander, sales manager for the company, presented the proposal at the Sept. 11 meeting. He said the company does business at the Shortcreek Landfill near Wheeling and was seeking to extend operations into the Cadiz area.
“This is not for a municipal bid, this is not for residential services,” Alexander told council. “Right now this is just for Sally Buffalo Park.”
The buildings of interest include the sewage and water facilities as well as the street department. Recycling services would be limited to cardboard. No discussion followed, and council took no action on the proposal.
Village Administrator Brandon Ludwig gave his regular report on the water treatment plant, noting that the village continues to work with the Environmental Protection Agency and is maintaining “good testing.”
He said treatment changes are being planned and will require EPA approval. “We just got everybody recertified in the lab yesterday, all of our operators,” Ludwig said.
Ludwig also reported on upcoming community events. Another Uptown Cadiz event is set for Friday, Sept. 19, and Fall Fest will take place Sept. 30 at the fairgrounds with food trucks and a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Woodsfield Savings Bank will also host a public tailgate party Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On infrastructure, paving work has been completed on the lower end of Country Club Road and Chestnut Lane, with Charleston Street scheduled next.
