Much like spring finally coming back to Ohio, Malvern enters the 2026 spring with renewed optimism. After an 8-16 overall record in 2025, head coach Kyle Stotzer believes this season’s roster may just be his most talented yet.
Now in his third season leading the Hornets, Stotzer has nurtured steady growth within the program, and this year’s group should be prepared to take the next step in the rough-and-tumble Inter-Valley Conference North Division.

“We are very excited for this season,” Stotzer said. “This is the most skillful team we have had in my four years. We have some very talented players returning and a couple young pieces that can have major impacts for us.”
Malvern returns a strong core of experienced players, led by do-it-all senior standout Cameron Good (P/SS/2B/C), who earned first-team All-IVC and first-team All-East District honors last season. Doing his best Shohei Ohtani impression, Good was a force both on the mound and at the plate, recording a 3.71 ERA with 32 strikeouts while also hitting .423 with 19 RBIs.
Senior Darnell Jackson (OF/C/P) also returns following an impressive junior campaign in which he garnered honorable mention honors in both the IVC and East District. Jackson hit .333 and added 12 stolen bases, showcasing versatility across multiple positions.
Additional returning contributors include Dakota Barger (2B/C), who hit .290 with four doubles, and a solid junior class featuring Cooper Kiehl (3B/1B/P), Jaxon Jones (P/1B/3B), Tyler Pelle (OF), and Bryson Casler (OF/DH). Sophomore Owen Warth (P/CF) looks to build upon a stellar freshman season in which he logged a 3.32 ERA with 21 strikeouts, while also contributing offensively with a .302 batting average.
The Hornets will look to replace the production of graduated seniors Tyler Cobb, a second-team All-IVC and East District selection, and Jared Witherow, but their returning depth should be a boost heading into the season.
One of the team’s biggest intangibles may come from outside the diamond. Many ballplayers were part of successful football and basketball seasons, including the Hornets’ postseason run on the hardwood that ended in the state final four, bringing a winning mindset into the spring.

“Most of the guys have experienced a lot of winning this year,” Stotzer said. “That experience carries over and helps build confidence and toughness.”
While talent and experience are clear strengths, Malvern will need to address some early challenges — particularly at catcher, where inexperience could be a factor.
“We will be very inexperienced behind the dish,” Stotzer said. “That’s something we’ll need to develop as the season goes on.”
The Hornets also expect contributions from promising freshmen Wade Barkley and Gage Haught, who could provide an immediate boost with their versatility.
In a tough IVC North Division, Malvern knows the road to the top won’t be easy. Strasburg-Franklin enters as the early favorite after returning nearly its entire roster from an extended tournament run, while Buckeye Trail remains a consistent threat.
Still, the Hornets believe they have the pieces to compete.
“We are hoping to be in the thick of it when it comes to the end of the year,” Stotzer said.
With a talented roster, growing confidence, and a hunger to improve on last year’s record, Malvern appears poised to make a push up the standings this spring.
