The five men seeking the Republican nomination for the one county commissioner post at the May 3 primary election included George E. Cross, John Eisenhut, Elmer G. Morvatz, Roy Roudebush and Kenneth A. Widder.
Supt. Thomas M. Gorrell of Malvern resigned as executive head of schools in the Brown Local School District.
The Carrollton High School golf team, coached by Rusty Bright and comprised of Carl Winters, Bill Lopresti, Rockly Smith, Jim Allmon and John Richards, racked up six straight wins after getting off to a slow start.

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed the former Robinson Clay Products Co. brick building in Malvern.

The Cummings Bank Co. of Carrollton and Dellroy announced the expansion of the firm’s office at the corner of 2nd Street SW and S. High Street.
Carrollton junior hurler Jack Cole had 19 strikeouts during the Warriors’ 5-4 defeat by Sandy Valley.

Four individuals and one business were saluted by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce at its 10th annual recognition banquet. The individuals included Robert Crowl Jr., Gordon Evans, Rachel Ludwig and Jeff Yeager. McFadden’s Insurance, owned by Percy McFadden, was the business recognized at the event.
The 75th anniversary of the founding of the Petersburg Grange was celebrated at a Diamond Jubilee held at the Carrollton High School cafeteria.
Kelly Tice and Libby Crites both bettered Malvern’s 3,200-meter record when the Carrollton Warriors fell to Malvern 81-47.

Ceremonial first pitches highlighted the April 20 dedication of the new Field of Dreams on state Route 332, south of Carrollton, when the Warriors took two games from the Jewett-Scio Vikings.
Valerie Stocker was hired as the new treasurer by Sherrodsville Village Council.
Mitch Fox, a member of the Shanghide band, was the subject of a feature story in the April 25, 1996, issue of The FPS.
Carrollton’s softball team improved to 3-2 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Susan (Price) Cook of Leavittsville was the subject of a feature story on her artwork using a needle and thread.
A group of students from Carroll County Christian Academy not only did well in individual categories, but won the Best of School award for the academy at the 2006 state competition.
The Carrollton varsity girls softball team grabbed two more NBC wins when Ally Lowdermilk and Amber Williamson combined to lead the Warriors to a 9-5 win over Sandy Valley.

The congregation of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Carrollton was anxiously awaiting the arrival of building permits for construction of a new church on Roswell Road, just west of the present church.
Adam Champer led the way for the Malvern Hornets boys track team, which scored 61 points to finish second at a Hiland tri-meet.
Carrollton pitcher Shelbee Stidom threw her second no-hitter of 2016 in a 5-0 victory over Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
