New cases filed
Therese M. Hall, anonymous address, has filed a petition for a civil stalking protection order against Anthony Fernwalt of 4928 Yukon St., Canton; temporary protection order issued until Nov. 15 and full hearing on the petition set for Oct. 27.
Jodi Watson of 5248 Bluebird Rd. NW, Malvern, has filed a workers’ compensation complaint against Brown Schools at 3242 Coral Rd. NW, Malvern, and Stephanie McCloud, administrator of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in Columbus.
The plaintiff is seeking her right to participate under the Workers’ Compensation Act of Ohio for the additional condition of a “left leg fracture and any other injuries/conditions allegedly caused by events of Nov. 22, 2022,” when the air seat, weighing approximately 80 pounds, on the bus she was driving deflated unexpectedly, trapping her left foot and causing her to twist her lower extremity to free herself while an employee of Brown Schools.
Ocal HC LLC, doing business as Ocal Home Care at 4150 Beldon Village St. NW, Canton, has filed a complaint against Cyril Surington of 1145 Granada Rd. NW, Dellroy, seeking judgment for the sum of no less than $47,000 regarding a home care service agreement.
Criminal cases
Substantial evidence has been found that Eric F. Hawkins, 41, of 1090 Bedrock Rd. NW, Dellroy, has violated a three-year probation imposed Sept. 22, 2025, on conviction of domestic violence (a fourth-degree felony). The defendant’s community control sanctions were revoked, and the original sentence of 16 months in prison was imposed with credit for 374 days of jail time.
A capias has been issued for the arrest of Amy L. Shanahan, 48, of 9163 W. Southview St., Minerva, for a violation of a three-year probation imposed Feb. 2, 2024, on conviction of obstructing justice and aggravated possession of drugs.
Jud A. Shriner, 25, of 4240 Milo Rd. NW, Carrollton, has entered a not guilty plea to a July 9 indictment charging him with aggravated possession of drugs; defendant released on $25,000 recognizance bond and case continued to Oct. 9 for a pretrial.
Bond has been set at $100,000 cash or surety in the case of Kase K. Plunket, 35, of 104 Josh Lane NW, Carrollton, due to the defendant’s failure to appear at an Oct. 6 hearing regarding a Sept. 3, 2025, indictment charging Plunket with aggravated possession of drugs, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia offenses.
Marc A. Pettinger, 59, of 414 Clay St., Malvern, has withdrawn a former not guilty plea to a July 9, 2025, indictment charging him with aggravated possession of drugs (fifth-degree felony), tampering with evidence (third-degree felony) and drug paraphernalia offenses (fourth-degree misdemeanor) and entered guilty pleas to an amended indictment charging him with Counts 1 and 2 only. Pettinger was sentenced to a three-year community control program on 16 conditions, including a $500 fine and all court costs to be paid within 36 months.
Substantial evidence has been found that Ann M. McHenry, 36, of 3130 Jasmine Rd. NW, Carrollton, has violated a two-year intervention plan imposed Feb. 6, 2025, on conviction of aggravated possession of drugs (fifth-degree felony). However, the court elected not to revoke McHenry’s community control sanctions at this time and instead modified them to include a four- to six-month confinement to the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center to fulfill the terms of her treatment contract.
Substantial evidence has been found that April M. Burwell, 52, of 4725 Cleveland Ave. NW, Apt. 57, Canton, has violated a three-year probation imposed Feb. 8, 2024, on conviction of aggravated possession of drugs. However, the court elected not to revoke the defendant’s community control sanctions at this time and instead modified them to include 18 days in jail with credit for 18 days served, plus completion of the Stark County Hope program.
Probable cause has been found that James A. Hiles, 34, of 883 Franklin Ave., Apt. 2, Salem, has violated a three-year probation imposed Feb. 2, 2023, on conviction of aggravated possession of drugs; defendant released on $25,000 recognizance bond and case continued to Nov. 13 for a merits hearing.
A defendant’s motion for judicial release has been denied in the case of Gregory A. James, 62, formerly of Columbus, who was convicted of attempted rape (second-degree felony) and gross sexual imposition (third-degree felony) May 5, 2023, and sentenced to five years and a maximum of 7½ years in prison on Count 1 and 60 months in prison on the gross sexual imposition conviction.
