Buckeye Local Foreign Language Club plans International Culture Fair
Now in its 21st year, the culture fair draws hundreds of attendees each year
The Buckeye Local High School Foreign Language Club is preparing for its annual International Culture Fair.
This year’s theme is Get Wild with Culture. The event is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Feb. 19 and will feature displays, costumes and food representing countries around the world.
Co-adviser Bonnie Soos, who works with Savana McBeth, said the club’s about 70 members will focus on the natural aspects of the countries they represent.
“Club members will research an animal native to their country and highlight the symbolism behind it,” Soos said. “Instead of doing theatrical performances, we are creating a digital presentation of all of the animals and interesting facts.”
Now in its 21st year, the culture fair draws hundreds of attendees each year. Admission is free, but food tickets cost 25 cents each. A 50-50 raffle will also be held.
“The first one was held in 2005, celebrating The Year of the Languages," Soos said. “Since then, it has grown into what it is today and has become an annual Buckeye Local tradition.”
Proceeds will support cultural activities and field trips. The club is also planning to travel abroad, including a return trip to Spain in March.
“Our first stop is the capital city of Madrid, and then we will travel to the region of Andalucia in southern Spain, just in time to see the Holy Week processions,” Soos said. “We have been planning this trip since 2024 and are very excited.”
