Ellyn Atchison and Joyce Mahoney, both juniors at Carrollton High School, were named delegates to the American Legion Auxiliary’s Buckeye Girls State set for June 18-26 at Capital University in Columbus.
The congregation of Carrollton First Presbyterian Church voted to proceed with the construction of a Christian education addition to the present building at 200 N. Lisbon St., at an approximate cost of $89,200.
The Carrollton High School wrestlers ended their season with a 13-1 record, losing only to Canton McKinley.

Margaret Johnston, a primary education teacher at Carrollton School, was featured in a front-page photo with her students, pointing to Feb. 29 as being Leap Year on a 1976 classroom calendar.
Rick Brumbaugh, a sophomore, was the winner of the noon foul-shooting contest by dumping in 8 of 10 attempts, beating faculty member and reserve basketball coach Tom Spiker.

In appreciation for National Teacher Day, the Carrollton School Board provided apples and “smile” badges for each of the approximately 165 certified employees of the district.
Malvern High School juniors selected to attend Buckeye Girls State and Buckeye Boys State included Tricia Knapp and Staci Karcher; Jeff Galay and Ron Benedict.
Linda Clay took over ownership of Nature Storehouse in Carrollton.
The Minerva Lions roared to a 175 1/2-point win over Lake to claim the Senate League wrestling title while Minerva wrestler Gary Chaddock was named Senate League MVP.

Amanda Pallaye, a sixth grader at Carrollton’s Bell-Herron Middle School, placed first in Carroll County’s 1996 spelling bee while Christina Archer, an eighth-grade student at Malvern Elementary School, was named runner-up.
B.J. Hawkins, daughter of Bill and Carol Hawkins of Bay Road, Carrollton, graduated from the 127th class of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and was assigned to the patrol post at Georgetown, near Cincinnati.
Six Carrollton Warriors advanced to district competition. They included Mark McCort, Nick Taylor, Aaron Childs, Tyson Schrickel, Dave Purdy and Dan Little.

Taylor Thompson, an eighth grader at Carrollton Bell-Herron Middle School, was the spelling bee champion at the 2006 Carroll County spelling bee while Taylor Colamonica, a seventh-grade student at Malvern School, was the runner-up.
The Carroll County Agricultural Society, Fair Board, voted to continue to pursue funding to turn the grandstand into a community building.
Matt Manfull, 125-pound senior at Carrollton High School, won the district wrestling title to advance to the state competition.

Bailey McKairns and Travis Rutledge, students at Carrollton High School, qualified to compete at the state public speaking contest at Marysville High School.
Sherrodsville Council was taking steps to get the village’s ambulance service back on track.
The Malvern boys basketball team topped Beallsville 116-54 to face Bellaire St. John in the sectional final.
