Wooster pauses electric aggregation program

Residents will return to AEP Ohio’s standard utility rate

The City of Wooster is temporarily suspending its electric aggregation program and returning participants to AEP Ohio’s standard utility rate because current private supplier rates are higher than the upcoming standard rate.

The City of Wooster, in consultation with Palmer Energy Co., is temporarily suspending its electric aggregation program and returning participants to AEP Ohio’s standard utility rate, also known as the Price to Compare or Standard Service Offer.

Wooster’s aggregation program has saved the community more than $1.1 million since its inception. However, current wholesale market conditions mean private supplier rates are now higher than AEP Ohio’s upcoming standard rate.

To ensure residents and small businesses pay the lowest possible price for electricity, the city is pausing the program until market conditions improve.

No action is required from residents. The city will monitor the market and reintroduce the program when rates become favorable again.

An official opt-out letter will be mailed to all eligible participants before the launch of any future program.

Residents with questions about the electric aggregation program may contact Valerie Bluhm of Palmer Energy at 419-491-1040.
