Orrville council reviews Depot Park events and city updates
Community Talent Show, road work, tournaments and budget legislation discussed during June 15 meeting
Orrville City Council reviewed several city updates during its June 15 meeting.
The Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at 7 p.m. July 6 to discuss Depot Park fees and the scheduling process, Depot Park summer concerts, and 2027 ball field dugout covers and Brenneman Field painting improvements.
Kyle Yoakum was named employee of the month. Yoakum works at the power plant.
Two new members were welcomed to the public safety team. Derek Johnson joined the Orrville Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT, and Officer Jerson Lopez Irias joined the Orrville Police Department.
The Community Talent Show will be held at 7 p.m. June 25 on the Centennial Stage at Depot Park. It will be the first event held in the new park and on the new stage. Performers of all ages and talents are being sought. The sign-up deadline is June 23. Those interested may contact the mayor’s office at 330-684-5001.
The city extended its thanks to Norman Hibiger for 32 years of service on the Orrville Planning Commission. The city is seeking to fill the vacancy. Those interested may contact the office at 330-684-5001.
The Depot Park project is wrapping up. The bike trail is expected to be completed in the next week or so. The East Hostetler Road project will get underway during the Fourth of July week when Quality Castings is on shutdown.
The 12U softball tournament will begin June 26. The parade will be June 30. The 14U softball tournament will begin July 1. There are 118 teams registered from seven states.
Police Chief Cory Seiler gave a report on a June 14 incident and how vital the technology and training council approves was in this case.
The April 30 fund balance report was presented and approved, subject to audit.
No legislation was passed during the meeting. The 2027 budget legislation was placed on first reading and will go through two more readings July 6 and July 20 before approval.
The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. July 6. All meetings are open to the public and held in the upstairs courtroom.
