Wooster Music Club showcases local talent
March 3 event at Wooster United Methodist Church features performances by students and club members
The Wooster Music Club met March 3 at Wooster United Methodist Church, with Co-President Kathy Helmuth welcoming members and guests.
Piano students of Sally Morton were first on the program. Teddy Poulson played “A Pleasant Morning” by Louis Streabbog. The duet “Cartoons” by Weekley and Arganbright was performed by Teddy Poulson and Sawyer Halloran, who are both Vera Dilgard Scholarship recipients. Melody Bober played “Love That Boogie” by Wella Halloran.
Morton then gave a presentation about Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Stephanie Musselman (piano) performed “The Lovers’ Waltz” and “Ashokan Farewell” by Molly Mason and Jay Unger after giving a brief history of the two waltzes. Hope Long then performed a clarinet solo of “Concerto for Clarinet,” second movement, by Mozart.
Charlotte Marsh (vocalist) shared the following songs: “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller; “Better Than a Hallelujah” by Sarah Hart and Chapin Hartford; and “Well Done” by Chad Cates, Jason Walker and Moriah Peters.
Helmuth (flute) and Mary-Marie Deauclaire (piano) performed an arrangement of the folk melody “Londonderry Air” by M. Yamamoto and “Irish Gems,” a medley of Irish tunes arranged by Lloyd Conley.
The performance segment of the meeting ended with the reading of two humorous limericks by Laura Tappen.
The Wooster Music Club meets the first Tuesday of the month from September through May, except for January and February. The meetings are held in Wesley Hall of the Wooster United Methodist Church, and guests are welcome to attend.
