Wooster declares snow emergency, announces parking restrictions

Snow parking ban will be in effect from midnight Jan. 24 through 8 p.m. Jan. 26

A snow emergency has been declared in the city of Wooster due to heavy snow and/or ice that officials say pose a serious public hazard and impair transportation and emergency services.

Based on the current forecast and predicted snowfall, a snow parking ban will be in effect from midnight Saturday, Jan. 24, through 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26. Emergency parking regulations will be enforced beginning two hours after the announcement of the snow emergency.

City officials said the emergency will remain in effect until the director of administration announces that snowplowing operations have been completed.

During the snow emergency, parking is prohibited on designated city streets to allow snow removal operations to be completed safely and efficiently. Illegally parked vehicles may be subject to parking fines and/or impoundment.

Officials are urging residents to avoid parking on all streets during the emergency period and to take responsibility for monitoring weather conditions and complying with emergency parking regulations.

Parking is prohibited on the following city streets during the snow emergency: Akron Road, Beall Avenue, Bever Street, Bowman Street, Buckeye Street, Burbank Road, Cleveland Road, Columbus Avenue, East University Street (east of Beall Avenue), Emerick Street, Gasche Street, Grant Street, Graustark Path (between Highland Avenue and Winkler Drive), Henry Street, High Street, Highland Avenue, Larwill Street, Liberty Street, Madison Avenue, Market Street, Mechanicsburg Road, North Street, Oak Hill Road, Palmer Street, Pittsburgh Avenue, Portage Road, Quinby Avenue, South Street, Spink Street, Spruce Street, Vanover Street, Walnut Street, Wayne Avenue and West Lincoln Way (Mansfield Road).
