Wayne County hosts Vietnam veteran luncheon
Event on March 27 in Wooster honors veterans' resilience and service
The Wayne County Veterans Service Commission will host its third annual Vietnam Veteran Recognition Luncheon at noon March 27 at the Greystone Event Center, 50 Rifle Road, Wooster.
This year’s theme, Beyond the War — Still Standing in Honor, reflects the resilience and enduring strength of Vietnam veterans whose service did not end when they returned home.
“This is a time to honor and recognize all of our Vietnam veterans for their service, endurance and steadfast character — even when memories of the war for some remain with them today," said Sundee Porter, outreach coordinator. "They endured experiences that have stayed with them for decades, yet they continue to push forward, separate the past from the now and future and serve and contribute in our communities today. That is resilience and deserves recognition.”
This year’s keynote speaker will be retired Wayne County Sheriff and veteran Sgt. Ken Kitchen. Following his remarks, Kitchen will join fellow Vietnam veterans who wish to share their experiences and thoughts.
All Wayne County veterans and their guests are invited to attend.
