With the Thanksgiving season here, Chippewa students have plenty to be thankful for this holiday season, as they will be able to attend home basketball games for free. This was made possible by the team of Vicky and Beth from Howard Hanna Wadsworth.

“Nothing beats the energy of a packed student section,” Vicky De Angelis posted on Facebook. “We’re thrilled to make it possible for every student to be part of that experience.”

The team around De Angelis, who has retired from the school, involves Beth Ogg and Shelly Thomas. Ogg is still a teacher inside the school, and Thomas used to own a business in the community. For the trio, it was something that lay on their hearts.

“We felt that it was important,” Thomas said. “We were just trying to think of creative ways to promote the school system, help out the kids and help the kids not to be stuck at the house. Tomorrow will be the first girls game — boys are next week — and we are excited for the turnout.”

With the sponsorship and partnership of the Howard Hanna Wadsworth team, students from kindergarten to high school can cheer on their classmates and experience the excitement of a home basketball game throughout the season. In a community that already embraces two programs dripping with tradition and legacy, it only adds to the excitement.

“This is a wonderful thing that they have done for our program and our school,” girls basketball coach Katie Miller said. “School spirit is something the kids thrive off of, and I am excited that all their classmates will get the opportunity now to cheer them on.”

Boys basketball coach Matthew Stewart echoed that.

“Yes,” he said, “definitely excited. This is going to help change the atmosphere in the gym. Getting more students in to support the programs is going to make for an electric atmosphere. Players feed off of positive energy, and this will bring just that.”

There is no question opponents already found the confines in Doylestown to be a tough one to battle. It will only be louder, tougher and more fun this year. Thanks to Vicky De Angelis’ team at Howard Hanna Wadsworth, this gift to students from kindergarten to high school was made possible and is just another reason to be thankful in the Chippewa community.
