In an effort to encourage reading among elementary students, the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is launching an America 250 Reading Challenge from January through May.

“Our library has a long-standing reading challenge for teens and adults to participate in. This year, we received requests from parents and educators to create a reading challenge for our elementary school kids, too,” said Emily Price, public relations associate. “To answer those requests, we created an America 250 Reading Challenge to align with the America 250 celebrations and reading initiatives across the county.”

The America 250 Reading Challenge began Monday, Jan. 19, and runs through Monday, May 11. Students can use Beanstack to log 25 books of their choice and earn 10 points per book for a total of 250 points in recognition of America’s 250th birthday. After completing the challenge, participants will receive an America-themed slap bracelet, while supplies last.

Beanstack is a reading tracker app available at tusclibrary.org/beanstack or by downloading the free Beanstack Tracker App from a mobile device’s app store. Beanstack rewards users with online badges to encourage readers to complete the challenge. Those needing help using the app can call the library for assistance. Paper trackers also are available at any TCPL location.
