Fire Up the Grill: Summer Starts Now
Summer reading program returns to Medina County libraries
Reading challenges, prizes and storytimes planned for kids, teens and adults
Summer Reading at Medina County District Library will kick off May 29 and continue through Aug. 22. This year’s program features a dinosaur theme for kids and teens and a retro theme for adults.
Children from birth through fifth grade can pick up a game board at their library to begin playing. Participants who read for 30 days will receive a treasure box prize and a book of their choice upon completion.
Teens in grades 6-12 can participate online at mcdl.info/ReadingGame. Participants can log reading hours to earn prizes and enter for a chance to win grand prize bundles that include art supplies, a mini fridge, a LEGO set, a drone, outdoor play items, a game set and a Dungeons & Dragons starter set.
Adults can pick up a flyer for the “Read It!” game at their library. Participants who read or listen to five books will earn an invitation to a pizza party featuring book-themed activities, button making and more.
Families visiting the library also can begin the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program and track reading progress through preschool. Parents can register children from birth to age 5 for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to receive a free book by mail each month.
Storytimes begin June 8 and continue for eight weeks through Aug. 1. Additional summer events and storytime information are available at mcdl.info/Storytimes and mcdl.info/Events.
