ORMACO will close out its Jazz Under the Stars summer concert series Saturday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. with Ohio native Barbara Rosene.

Renowned jazz vocalist Barbara Rosene will headline ORMACO’s final Jazz Under the Stars concert Aug. 23 in Medina, joined by Rock Wehrmann, Aidan Plank and Tommy Lehman for the free outdoor performance.

Rosene, celebrated for her interpretations of classic jazz from the 1920s through the 1940s, will be joined by a trio featuring Rock Wehrmann on piano, Aidan Plank on bass and Tommy Lehman on trumpet. The free outdoor concert will take place at Medina’s Uptown Park. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics.

In case of rain, the performance will move to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 317 E. Liberty St., Medina. For more information, call 419-853-6016.

Rosene has performed around the world with the Harry James Orchestra, Les Paul, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and the Woody Allen Band. She has appeared at venues including New York’s Iridium Jazz Club, Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall, Birdland, Blues Alley, The Jazz Corner and international festivals such as the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Her recordings and performances have earned acclaim, with Wall Street Journal critic Will Friedwald writing, “No one evokes more vividly the music of the great singers of the 1920s than Barbara Rosene.” She has been featured on Judy Carmichael’s NPR program Jazz Inspired and on NPR’s Hot Jazz Saturday Night, and is the recipient of the Backstage Bistro Award.

The ORMACO concert continues the nonprofit’s mission of bringing free, high-quality arts programming to the community.
