Medina High School symphony band to perform at Severance Hall

Ensemble will take the stage Jan. 25 as part of the Northeast Ohio Band Invitational

The Medina High School Symphony Band will perform at Cleveland's Severance Hall on Jan. 25.

The Medina High School Symphony Band will take the stage at Severance Hall on Sunday, Jan. 25, performing in the Northeast Ohio Band Invitational at the home of The Cleveland Orchestra.

The performance marks a major milestone for the Medina band program and follows a highly successful marching season for the Musical Bees. The Symphony Band will be joined on stage by the Medina High School Concert Band for two combined selections, giving additional students the opportunity to perform in one of the most respected concert halls in the world.

Medina’s appearance at Severance Hall is the latest chapter in a year defined by growth, commitment and excellence across the band program. Throughout the fall, the Musical Bees Marching Band delivered a season filled with energy, precision and teamwork, culminating in strong performances during the Ohio Music Education Association adjudicated season.

The marching band earned numerous regional honors, including grand champion, reserve grand champion, best percussion, best guard, best general effect and best music. The season concluded at OMEA State Marching Band Finals, where the Musical Bees received their 23rd consecutive superior rating, continuing a long-standing tradition of excellence.

Band presidents Hailey Getz and Lauren Block said the ensemble’s success was built on dedication and shared purpose.

“A moment that captures what this band means to us is hearing the ‘one’ echo off the stadium as we step onto the field,” they said. “The culture and teamwork continued to grow throughout the season as members lifted each other up, even during our most challenging moments.”

As marching season ended, Medina’s bands transitioned quickly into concert preparation, presenting a Holiday Concert in December before turning their focus to Severance Hall. Directors and students alike emphasized that the opportunity reflects not only musical achievement, but also the leadership, discipline and collaboration developed through the program.

The Northeast Ohio Band Invitational takes place throughout the afternoon, with Medina’s performance scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased through The Cleveland Orchestra’s website.
