Library outreach services support older adults across Medina County
Home delivery, Bookmobile and memory programs expand access during Older Americans Month
Medina County District Library’s Outreach Services offers a variety of programs for older adults, bringing library resources directly to the community through home delivery, the Bookmobile and specialized services.
Home delivery
Can’t come to the library? MCDL will come to you. The program offers monthly deliveries of regular and large-print books, audiobooks, movies, music and more. Service can be short- or long-term and is available to patrons at home or in senior residences and care facilities. Staff and volunteers deliver to an average of 90 patrons per month.
Delivery options include door drop-off by library staff, pickup by a family member at a library location or books by mail.
Bookmobile and lobby stops
The Bookmobile makes nearly 60 stops per month at apartment complexes, neighborhoods, outlying areas and senior living locations. It features a lift and removable shelves that can be rolled into lobbies, allowing patrons with mobility challenges to browse materials and make their own selections.
Memory services
MCDL is committed to inclusive access and offers dementia-friendly resources to support continued participation in library programs. Medina County is part of the Dementia Friendly America® network, and MCDL staff have completed Ohio Department of Cognitive Health training to earn the Dementia Inclusive Library designation.
The library also partners with local organizations to provide training for agencies and businesses on serving individuals with memory loss. Organizations can request training by emailing muniak@mcdl.info.
The Memory Café at Buckeye Library provides a welcoming space for individuals living with memory loss and their care partners to socialize, share stories and participate in activities. No registration is required; visit mcdl.info/MemoryCafe for upcoming sessions.
Memory Kits are available for checkout at all MCDL locations, including:
- Memory Care Kits: Include a caregiver support book, adult picture book, music CD and activities.
- Stay Sharp Kits: Designed to support cognitive health through books, puzzles and games that encourage conversation and mental engagement.
- Reading2Connect Kits: Feature modified books for readers with visual or cognitive challenges, including multiple copies for group reading in care settings.
Magnifier kits
Magnifier kits allow patrons to try different reading aids, with multiple styles and magnification strengths available. Kits check out for two weeks. Reserve online or call 330-723-2463.
Talking Book Program
Free recorded books, magazines and playback equipment are available by mail to eligible Ohio residents who are blind, visually impaired, physically disabled or have reading disabilities. Call 330-722-2590 for assistance or apply through the State Library of Ohio.
