More than 50 volunteers from Medina United Church of Christ, Congregational built walls June 6 in the church parking lot for Habitat for Humanity of Medina County's next home.

Habitat affiliate volunteers led church members and friends of all ages in constructing interior and exterior wall frames. The home, which will be built within the city of Medina, is expected to be completed in the fall. It will be Habitat's 61st new home in the county.

Church members have donated time and money to past interfaith builds. This is the second home sponsored solely by the church, with the last one in 2000 on Bronson Street. Last month, the church presented Habitat with a check for $60,000.

"A heartfelt thank-you to Medina UCCC for not only opening their doors and hosting us, but for their generous sponsorship gift in support of this build. Their investment in this home, and in this family, is appreciated," said Drew Hall, executive director of the local Habitat. "We cannot wait to see this home come to life over the next few weeks."

Sponsoring a home has been a goal for the church for several years.

"Partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Medina County is core to our mission of living out the gospel, and seeing our volunteers show up ready to work and full of heart was inspiring," said Patrick Acurio, chair of the church mission team. "We're grateful to everyone who gave their time and energy to help build something that makes a positive and lasting impact to a family in our community."

The church will have future opportunities to help construct the home. Pastor Meghan Malone said Habitat's mission aligns perfectly with the church's.

"Our church's mission is to welcome, love and serve. This is a great opportunity for us to put that mission into action and extend our love to a neighbor by building them a home," she said.
